PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic is a hard modified epoxy, fast dry antifouling paint with clean stable colors that has been developed to provide effective season-long protection on all power and sail boats. The fast dry formula allows it to be painted and launched in the same day. Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic is recommended for use on the underwater areas of fiberglass, wood and properly primed metal (except aluminum) boat hulls. It can be used in fresh, salt and brackish waters. * Proven, all purpose antifouling protection * Fast Dry formula * Overcoats most existing bottom paints (see www.international-yachtpaint.com - Antifouling Compatibility) PRODUCT INFORMATION Colour: Y999-Bronze, YBB449-Red, YBB559-Green, YBB669-Blue, YBB779-Black Finish: Matte Specific Gravity: 1.79 Volume Solids: 53.20% Typical Shelf Life: 2 yrs VOC (As Supplied): 470 g/lt Unit Size 1 US Quart 1 US Gallon APPLICATION AND USE Preparation PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: In Good Condition: Remove all traces of loose paint and contamination by sanding the entire surface with 80 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper; wipe surface clean with Special Thinner 216. Apply at least 2 coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic. In Poor Condition: Completely remove all old antifouling paint using Interstrip 299E for fiberglass and wood, and by sandblasting to near white metal for steel. After the surface has been properly prepared follow one of the application systems below. BARE FIBERGLASS: It is very important that bare fiberglass be properly prepared to prevent delamination of the antifouling paint. Begin by scrubbing the surface thoroughly with a stiff brush using All-Purpose Boat Soap and water to remove loose dirt and contamination. Flush with fresh water to remove the soap residue and allow to dry. Remove mold release wax using one of the following Interlux products, Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 following the product label instructions. To be certain the contamination has been removed, run water over the surface. If the water beads up or separates, repeat cleaning process. When the water sheets off, all contamination has be removed. Repair any surface imperfections using Watertite, Interfill 830 or Interfill 833 following label instructions. After the surface has been properly prepared follow one of the application systems below. No Sand System -: Clean the surface following the preparation procedure above. Apply one coat of InterProtect 2000E or Fiberglass No-Sand Primer following the label instructions for applying the primer and overcoating with antifouling paint. Apply two coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic allowing appropriate drying times. Sanding System -: Clean the surface following the preparation procedure above. Sand entire surface well with 80 grade (grit) paper until flat matte finish is obtained. Remove sanding residue and wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Apply two coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic allowing appropriate drying times. Blister Prevention System:: Apply The InterProtect system for the prevention of blisters. Wipe with Special Thinner 216. Apply the first coat of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic thinned 10% with Special Thinner 216 or Brush-Ease 433. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30 (if necessary). Apply two or more coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic unthinned, allowing for the appropriate dry times. METALS: Contact the Interlux Technical Service Department at 1-800-468-7589 for full information on how to properly prime underwater metals. Method It is very important that bare fiberglass be properly primed to prevent delamination of the antifouling paint. At least 2 coats should be applied. Do not apply when temperature is below 10 deg.C/50 Deg.F. Hints Mixing Stir or shake contents thoroughly before use. Thinner Special Thinner 216 or Brush-Ease 433. Thinning Thin only if necessary. Thin no more than 10%. Use Brush-Ease 433 if roller or brush drags during application. Cleaner Special Thinner 216 or Brush-Ease 433. Airless Spray Tip Size: 0.53-0.66 mm/0.020-0.026" Pressure: 170-204 bar/2500-3000 psi. Conventional Spray Tip Size: 1.8-2.2 mm/0.071-0.087" Pressure: 4.08-4.76 bar/60-70 psi (gun pressure); 10-15 psi (pot pressure). Roller Use a 3/8" nap solvent resistant roller. Other Take care to apply all the paint calculated even if it means applying an extra coat. Do not apply thin coats. Spraying of antifouling paints is prohibited in Canada. Some Important Points Colors may fade or change above the waterline. Stir well before use. Take care to apply the recommended number of coats. Full opacity will only be achieved by applying the recommended DFT. Product temperature should be no less than 10 Deg. C/50 Deg. F and maximum 35 Deg.C/95 Deg.F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 10 Deg.C/50 Deg. F and maximum 35 Deg. C/95 Deg. F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 10 Deg.C/50 Deg.F and maximum 35 Deg. C/95 Deg.F. Compatibility/Substrates Do not use on aluminium. For use on fiberglass, wood or properly primed steel and lead. Number of Coats: 2 coats, 3 on bare wood Coverage (Theoretical) - 407.1 (ftsq/Gal) Recommended DFT: 2.0 mils dry Recommended WFT: 3.0 mils wet Application Methods: Airless Spray, Brush, Conventional Spray, Roller TRANSPORTATION,STORAGE AND SAFETY INFORMATION Storage GENERAL INFORMATION: Exposure to air and extremes of temperature should be avoided. For the full shelf life of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic to be realised ensure that between use the container is firmly closed and the temperature is between 5 Deg. C/40 Deg. F and 35 Deg. C/95 Deg. F. Keep out of direct sunlight. TRANSPORTATION: The product should be kept in securely closed containers during transport and storage. Safety GENERAL: Antifoulings should only be wet sanded. Never dry sand or burn-off old antifoulings. Read the label safety section for Health and Safety Information, also available from our Technical Help Line. DISPOSAL: Do not discard tins or pour paint into water courses, use the facilities provided. It is best to allow paints to harden before disposal. Remainders of Fiberglass Bottomkote Classic cannot be disposed of through the municipal waste route or dumped without permit.
